Top Tips for starting college!
Hey Guys,
Today i am going to give you my top tips for starting college. Many of you have had your GCSE results and want to start your future at college. I love being at college because you get more independence than in school and they treat you more like adults! College can be a daunting time when you first enter them doors, but it is also exciting! You can meet new friends and do the things you want to do!
My first top tip for you is:
Join in: This is my tip because it is so important! You will be at college everyday and you will want to share them experiences with friends you make in college. Make the effort to join in and talk to people on your course and then before you know it, you will have made a friend!
Do not put pressure on yourself: This is so important as, you can get so ill and find that you won't be enjoying the course as much as you thought you would. It is so important to stay organised and time management! Leading on to my next point..
Staying orgainsed: MASSIVE thing at college is to stay organised. It's not like when you are at school and the teachers are running around for you! You have got to do it! Time tables are so helpful to stay organised as you know what you need to do, on what day and at what time. Different folders are important, because if you put it into one big folder, things can get messy and unorganised. So if you have a different colour folder for each teacher or unit, this ensures that you are organised!
say YES: I didn't do this enough when i started college, because i was shy and my confidence was at 0%. Say yes to many opportunities, like after college activities, volunteering! These will look great on your CV and will also show you are willing and interested!
Don't be afraid to ask: If you are finding it hard to complete an essay, ask your tutor or the teacher. The teachers want to help you be successful and they would rather you asked then not ask and get it wrong. Don't be afraid to ask a question if you feel it is silly, as my tutor once said ' A question, is never a silly question' and chances are, someone else is hoping that another person will ask that question too!
Stationary: Make sure you have a list of what you have to get for college and you can tick off what you have bought! Pens, pencils, highlighters, folders, a big bag, these are some of my essentials
Know what path you want to take: You have chosen college, because you know what you want to be and that will link in with your course. At college they will do monthly progression meetings with you, and you will talk about how you are finding the course and what job you want to do. It is important because they can find you placements under what you want to do and you can gain some experience. Also placement you can also find out what you want to do and don't want to do in the future!
If you are getting bad grades: Talk to your tutor and ask what you can do to improve next time. It is so important to ask questions because then your tutor can read through your assignment with you, and they then can highlight the things you are missing and what important information you need to start adding!
Get there early: Don't be late to any of your classes, because this could look bad, and shows you may not be right for the course. If you ever need a reference from your tutor, they could state that and pretty sure you won't be getting the job, if you are not on time! Being on time, shows you want to be there!
I hope you enjoyed this blog post!
see you next Wednesday with another blog post!
